HUNTSVILLE, Ala.(WHNT)-Upgrades are on the way for one of Huntsville’s biggest recreational facilities.

City officials tell WHNT News 19 that several million dollars will go into the expansion of John Hunt Park, with initial work set to begin this summer.

The project includes sign and road upgrades throughout the park. The gravel parking lots next to the soccer fields are also set for improvements.

City Councilman Bill Kling said the expansion project was impressive.

“I think it’s a great plan,” said Kling. “Possibly you could see an amphitheater in there. Uniform roads and signage throughout the park.┬áThe area next to the soccer fields would probably be asphalted over.”

City officials may have to scale back on some of their original plans for now due to delays in a nearby development that was supposed to bring in extra cash.
