HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - A train smashed into a car stalled out on the tracks in downtown Huntsville Thursday night, but the driver was able to jump from the car moments before impact.

Police say the driver ran from the scene after the crash. The vehicle was dragged by the train for several-hundred yards after it was struck.

The train blocked multiple intersections around the downtown Huntsville area for about an hour as crews investigated the scene.

No injuries were reported.

From my understanding (from watching the news cast), the train hit the car at Cleveland Avenue, which is a crossing equipped with gates. So the driver went around the gates and/or had their car stall on the tracks.

I wondered what all the fuss was at Pratt and the crossing. Not to mention the train was crawling along.

The Railroad requires it’s Train Speed thru Huntsville. Trains show follow the law move slowly thru populated areas. That way they would not have to pay off the Corner to say all pedestrians Killed on th tracks are Suicides. So they won’t have to pay out on law suits.
