LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - This weeks Tools for Teachers honoree and recipient of 319 dollars is David Weiss, a Social Studies teacher at Central School in Lauderdale County. His day job involves teaching junior high kids geography and civics, but he also serves as an Army Reserve soldier and has been deployed to Iraq.

Mr. Weiss is known for his structured, but caring, classroom environment. He credits military training for influencing his approach to teaching.

"In leadership and the army we learn about taking care of subordinates and taking care of people and caring about people." Weiss says. " So, you might say, teaching is about loving and caring for my students, and I learned that, of course, in the military."

And, it appears Mr. Weiss’s philosophy is popular among his students. We actually received two different letters from former students, nominating him for this award.

If you know a worthy teacher, coach, principal, or aide, tell us about them through the Tools for Teachers nomination form.
