(WHNT) - Colton Burpo underwent emergency surgery for a ruptured appendix when he was just three years old. Four months after he awoke from that surgery, he began to tell his parents an incredible tale of the afterlife, Heaven, and Jesus himself.

Colton described who and what he saw while he was under anesthesia, including his great-grandfather, who died 30 years before he was born and a miscarried sibling.

Over time, Colton described more and more of his vision, including talks with God, descriptions of Jesus, and even a description of Armageddon.

The Burpo family didn't question Colton. They accepted his story--as did members of the congregation Colton's father pastors in a small town in Nebraska. Colton's father wrote a book about Colton's vision, which became a national best seller.

That book has now been made into a film starring Greg Kinnear, Kelly Reilly, and Thomas Haden Church.

I’m so glad that this movie is making people realize, Heaven truly is for real! I loved the little boy playing Colton, he’s a true star, so darn cute! This is a heartwarming movie.
I was disappointed that it didn’t show more of a beautiful, colorful Heaven, or that you didn’t see more interaction with animals and people in Heaven. I thought they could have done without the sexual references between the parents.
