Pollen Leaves Residents Sneezing, Scratching and Coughing

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – With spring and a high pollen count many may be struggling to breathe, scratching their eyes out or sneezing their heads off.

In Big Spring Park Friday evening people enjoying the pleasant warm weather also suffered through the side effects of the spring pollen.

"I usually end up using one or two sick days around this time of year because of the pollen flaring up my allergies," Andrew Dollarhide says.

The website offers all kinds of information on seasonal allergies and the triggers for them. Youcan search your zipcode to get a customized risk assessment in your area. Different colored bars (yellow, orange, etc.) show how bad the level of allergens will be on each day.

For mobile folks, you can also try Pollen.com’s Allergy Alert – a free app for Androids and iPhones. When you give the app access to your current location, it pulls up the allergy forecast for that day, or a 4-day range. The scale ranges from 0 to 12. The app will also describe which kinds of allergens are most abundant in your area.
