NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WHNT) - Along the famed stretch of road in downtown Nashville known simply as Broadway, you'll find honky-tonk after honky-tonk. It's where countless country stars have gotten their start.  And Chad Bearden is right in the country music mix.

"I play mainly the Tootsies circuit," Bearden told us during a recent interview.  "So I play Tootsies, I play Rippy's, I play Honky Tonk Central and some things like that. Still play a lot of road gigs, too."

While Chad is now a fixture playing in the bars along Broadway, just a few months ago the he was serving as a police officer in Albertville, a big change for the Grant native.

"It really was. It wasn't that I was unhappy with my job. I loved my job. I was a school resource officer. I had the perfect police job but it was just like there was something missing too," Chad said.

While he enjoys singing in front of the crowds alongside his girlfriend Shannon, he says performing country songs is not really his dream.

"I actually came to Nashville to be a songwriter. Out of all the things in music that's what I have the most passion for is writing songs. I would love to make my living just writing songs."

Chad has a new single that he wrote, titled "Can't Get Over You."  He hopes it's the first of many songs he pens in his new home of Music City.

"I'll tell you, I'm loving and just having a blast getting to make music and getting to do what I love to do."
