FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — The city of Florence will be celebrating its 200th birthday in 2018 and while that’s a long way off, Mayor Mickey Haddock says plans for the celebration will be in the works soon.

Mayor Haddock announced he will start preparing as soon as this year for the big celebration.

A committee will start planning out events. Mayor Haddock says he wants to make the celebration year-long, with a different theme every month. “Hopefully what we will be able to put together will be something will draw people back that have been here,” Mayor Haddock says, “Draw people who have never been here, but also will be some great opportunities for our locals to experience some different things.”
