DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) - Decatur firefighters spent several hours late Wednesday night battling a house fire on the corner of White Street and 19th Avenue.

The fire started around 9:30 p.m. Flames were coming from the home when firefighters arrived.

One of the three people living in the home says they left some grease on the stove, then went outside.  They say the kitchen was on fire when they returned.

The fire heavily damaged the house.

The Decatur Fire Marshals' office is investigating the fire.
