(WHNT) - Tennessee Valley Authority biologists are conducting their annual spring sport fish survey to assess the overall health of species such as crappie and black bass on nine TVA reservoirs.

Biologists use boat-mounted electro-fishing equipment which harmlessly stun the fish.

Biologists collect the fish as they float to the surface after they have been stunned, so they can examine and evaluate the fish.

Once they are weighed, measured and counted, the fish are released.

This survey has been conducted every year since 1995.  It's used internally at TVA and shared state agencies to protect and improve sport fishing.
