ATHENS, Ala (WHNT) – “And this little piggy stayed home.” The pig that made an appearance at Cowart Elementary School in Athens Monday acted as though it would have rather stayed home. Instead, “Maddie,” adorned with a pink ribbon and lipstick, walked across the stage in the school’s auditorium and got a big, wet kiss from Coach Eddie Murphree.

It was all part of a fund raising effort by the school’s PTO that raised almost $200, all of it in change from the school’s students. Over a period of several days, the students deposited their spare change in one of three piggy banks in a display just inside the school’s front door. Each bank represented one of the three teachers in the competition. Coach Murphree was the overwhelming winner.

And so Monday afternoon, in front of the student body and staff, Coach Murphree made good on his pledge and planted one on the reluctant Maddie, much to the delight of the students.
