UPDATE: US 72 Is Open Following Fuel Spill In Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD, Ala. (WHNT) — US 72 is back open after an 18-wheeler overturned near mile marker 148 Saturday afternoon, Hollywood Fire Rescue officials say.  

Responders tell WHNT News 19 the driver of the semi tells them the car in front of him stopped, and he swerved to avoid hitting it.

Firefighters say a Hazmat crew was called in to clean up the fuel spill.

The driver of the semi had to be extricated from the truck. Officials say his injuries are not life threatening. The driver of the other vehicle does not have any injuries.

US 72 was closed in that area since one o’clock Saturday afternoon. The road opened at five o’clock.
