HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Fire crews are battling a blaze at the Sunlake Apartments, just off of Zierdt Road.

Crews are still working to contain the blaze. Our reporter on the scene, Matt Kroschel, tells us that flames and smoke are still coming out of the unit.

At least four units have suffered extreme fire and water damage.

Neighbors say there were people inside at least one of the apartments at the time of the fire that had to be rescued.

The American Red Cross is on the scene and is helping the displaced residents.

can you possibly tell whether or not the fire at Sun Lake Apts was in new or older buildings? Reason I’m asking is because we just had a good friend move to Sun Lake and not able to get in touch. Thanks for any info available

It is in the southwest corner of the complex. It is not on the lake, It backs up to the south property line. Hope that helps some.
