Rep. Mac McCutcheon

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Rep. Mac McCutcheon, the chairman of the Alabama House Rules Committee, is undergoing heart bypass surgery today at Huntsville Hospital.

Sources close to McCutcheon say he started suffering from chest pains last week, prompting a medical visit.

McCutcheon is nearing the end of his second term representing Madison and Limestone Counties in Montgomery.  Fellow lawmakers hope he will be able to return for the second half of the current legislative session.

McCutcheon recently retired from the City of Huntsville after a more than 25-year-career as a police officer, detective, probation officer, and zoning coordinator.
