Cottonmouths End Havoc Win Streak

Huntsville, Ala. - The Huntsville Havoc tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Columbus Cottonmouths held on for a 2-1 victory.

Columbus made the score 2-0 on a goal by Will Aide at 24 seconds in the second period, and Huntsville got as close as 2-1 whenRay Ortiz scored 19:01 into the third period.

The Cottonmouths'Andrew Loewen was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 42 saves and let only one puck past him. Loewen certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.97 entering the contest.

Columbus put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Havoc to score on any of their four power plays. The 30 shots that the Cottonmouths put on net surpassed Columbus' average of 24.9 shots per game this season.

Columbus also got a goal from Sam Bowles as well. More assists for Columbus came via Tom Maldonado and Jason Gray, who each chipped in one.

Huntsville was held below its usual level of production. The Havoc put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. Huntsville's offense rang up 43 shots on the Cottonmouths' net.

Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Justin Cseter, who had one.

Columbus totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Jesse Kallechy rejected 28 shots on goal for the Havoc. Huntsville ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Havoc ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mike Gurtler was ejected from the game.
