MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A jury has found a former Asbury official not guilty of assault.

Kenneth Jones, a former Asbury Assistant Fire Chief, had been on trial since last week for running over another man with his truck after a heated argument in 2011.

The jury returned with the verdict at 3:50 p.m. Thursday.

In closing arguments, the defense said Jones had been punched while sitting in the driver’s seat, so he wasn’t conscious of the action.

The prosecution says the action was deliberate and he consciously did it.
