MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Four lanes are better than two. That’s what residents and business owners on Winchester Road are looking forward to. The Madison County Commission is taking steps toward the widening of the road and the Flint River Bridge.

“Today, we approved a right-of-way purchases, we approved utility easements and moving utilities,” said Commissioner Roger Jones. Commissioners are making headway on a multi-million dollar major road improvement project.

“It is happening, we are hopeful that the project will be bid or the bridge project will be bid in April,” said Jones.

Jones said he believes they’re getting closer to starting the construction and that everything is on track, it’s just taking longer than expected.

“Like everything, it takes longer than we planned,” he said. “Hopefully this spring we’ll get started and I don’t know if it can be completed in two years, I hope as soon as possible.”
