FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – With a New Year, there are new plans. Florence Mayor Mickey Haddock said his goal for 2014 is to draw attention to the Shoals area because he wants to create more job opportunities.

“In today’s world, it’s so competitive that you have to be aggressive in your efforts and attract new industries to the Shoals,” said Haddock. “The number one thing on our entire list is to create new jobs.”

City leaders plan accomplish this goal by improving and restoring the city. This includes expanding sports fields to create more attention for national tournaments, having Regency Square Mall restored and improving the city’s infrastructure.

“I think we have a shot at relocating and exchanging some of the industrial development now and I think we can see a growth in our jobs which is always exciting,” said Haddock.

The City of Florence says its overall goal is to improve the quality of life and make 2014 the best year for its residents.
