HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- Wherever you may be heading for the holidays, one thing is for sure, getting to your destination can be hectic. Airport officials told WHNT News 19 that they're expecting a high number of travelers this holiday season, and have a few words of advice if you're one of them.

"The make up of our traveler changes dramatically from a business traveler to a leisure traveler which means sometimes those people aren't as familiar with traveling," said Chantel Minish with Huntsville International Airport.

Minish said it's important to have patience at the airport this holiday season. "Please arrive about an hour and a half before your departure to make sure you have time to get your packages, and everything that you've packed a little extra for the holiday travel."

Last year around this time, 82,000 passengers came through Huntsville International. Minish said they are expecting to see those same kind of numbers this year. Christmas, New Years, and the BCS National Championship are all contributing factors to the travel rush this holiday season. "I would say through all of those time periods, you should expect your time at Huntsville International Airport to take a little longer so please plan accordingly."

A always, stay weather aware. If your flight is cancelled or delayed because of inclement weather, you can find the latest on the airline website or at FlyHuntsville.com.
