REPORT: Madison County Shooting Suspect Takes Own Life in Arkansas
MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Scott Carter, the man wanted in connection with the Saturday shooting death of Amy Murphy has reportedly taken his own life. Our news partners at The Huntsville Times/Al.com report that Carter shot himself after a chase.
Al.com gives this account from the Arkansas Times:
A state trooper near Clarksville, Ark., spotted a car matching the description of a vehicle sought in an Alabama homicide case. The trooper stopped the car on Interstate 40 around 12:50 p.m. Sunday.
The woman who was driving fled, and a man hiding in the car got behind the wheel and drove away.
About 10 minutes later, another trooper near Fort Smith saw the car, and the driver stopped after a brief chase through parts of two west Arkansas counties. When the trooper approached the car, the man was dead.
The woman who fled was later taken into custody. Her identity also has not been released.
Investigators with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office have identified the woman shot and killed in Huntsville as Amy Murphy.
Investigators are still looking into the incident that took place Saturday morning.
It happened just before 7 a.m. Saturday at a home on Jordan Road near Shields Road.
Deputies identified Carter as a suspect in the case. WHNT News 19 reached out to investigators about the incident in Arkansas. They told us they can’t release any details at this time.
