The holiday travel season is upon us and if you’re hoping to avoid getting stuck in the worst seats while flying – you know, the ones right next to the bathroom or that jut out into the aisle and get bumped by service carts, check out the app SeatGuru from Trip Advisor.

Before you book a flight and select your seats, make sure to bring up the SeatGuru app. You can enter the information of any flight you’re considering, or look a flight up, to get a detailed layout of the plane. Here’s one example of a Delta flight from Huntsville.

You’ll not only be able to see seat arrangements, as you can with some airline booking tools, but also detailed information on the specific seats. You can spot for example, which seats are “limited recline” or next to the bathroom. Simple color-coding helps you identify the good seats too – ones with extra legroom or considered “economy comfort.”

Most airlines offer a standard economy travel rate with upgrades for “premium” or first-class seating. If you’re paying that standard economy price, at least make sure you’re getting the most out of it and getting one of the better seating options.
