MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT)- Morgan County deputies and medical staff are keeping their eyes on a man taken to jail after a police pursuit this afternoon.

Sheriff Ana Franklin told WHNT William Hunter Watkins swallowed a large amount of Oxycontin during the pursuit on Highway 231.

The sheriff says deputies tried to pull over Watkins for a traffic violation, but he did not stop right away.

Watkins did stop once deputies sandwiched him in near Brindlee Mountain.

Deputies charged Watkins with Fleeing, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Obstruction of Evidence.
