MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – Several fire departments worked to put out flames at a home in the eastern part of the county Wednesday.

The fire, on Horse Cove Road between Owens Crossroads and Gurley, started just after 7 a.m.  It’s a total loss.

A man and woman were home at the time, but the children had already left for school.  The family lost some pet birds and guinea pigs, but their dog survived.

Several fire departments helped with the effort, including Owens Crossroads, Huntsville, New Hope and Big Cove.
