Abandoned School Catches Fire

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Huntsville and Limestone Firefighters put out a school fire in Limestone County.

The abandoned Belle Mina School on Mooresville Road, just north of I-565 caught fire about 1:30 this morning.

Passersby say they saw smoke and flames coming from the old gymnasium.

Crews called Segers Volunteers to help put the fire out. It took crews about an hour to put the fire out.

Segers Volunteers were called back to the scene about 6:30 this morning because the fire started again.

There was heavy damage to the building. There is no power running to the school. Investigators will be back out today to determine the cause.

The school has been abandoned since 1991.
