UPDATE: Firefighters Battle Toxic Smoke, Flames in North Huntsville Warehouse

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - A massive fire inside a warehouse in north Huntsville took crews several hours to put out and the building is considered a total loss, according to initial reports from the scene.

Huntsville fire officials say the Alabama Climate Control building on Wholesale Avenue caught fire around 4:00 p.m. Thursday.

Fire crews say when they first arrived, flames were coming from the roof of the building. WHNT News 19 has confirmed everyone was able to make it out safely.

Nearly 40 firefighters responded to the two alarm fire and HAZMAT crews also responded to monitor water and air on the scene since there were chemicals inside.

No word yet what caused the fire.
