FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – A judge sentenced a Florence man to life in prison Thursday for escaping from custody.  He still faces another trial for murder, though.

Shannon Ray Johnson pleaded guilty to resisting arrest in 2011.  He was sentenced to six months of work release.

It was during that time prosecutors say Johnson walked away.  A jury found him guilty.

Johnson is accused of murdering Keith Barnett near the Alabama/Tennessee line.  His brother, Shawn Johnson, was previously tried and convicted for the murder.

Shannon Johnson had reached a deal with prosecutors to testify against his brother, but then allegedly lied on the stand.  His plea deal was revoked and he was indicted for Barnett’s murder, too.  The trial date has not been set.
