MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - Alabama State Troopers are investigating a wreck that sent a Morgan County teenager to the hospital.

It happened just after 10:00 p.m. Sunday on Berry Road in Morgan County. According to police, a driver sped past a Priceville police officer.

Before the officer could turn around to stop the driver, the driver ran off the road and went more than 300 feet through a ditch before striking a tree and flipping his car on its side.

The driver, 17-year-old Benjamin Griffin, was taken to Huntsville Hospital in serious condition.  WHNT News 19 has confirmed Griffin is the quarterback of Brewer High School's football team.

He is at Huntsville Hospital undergoing treatment for his injuries.

State Troopers say charges may be pending against Griffin.
