Gunner Scarano is named in a civil lawsuit regarding a deadly crash in south Huntsville in May 2013.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – A Madison County judge has appointed an attorney to represent a teen accused of causing two crashes in south Huntsville earlier this year, one of them deadly.

Circuit Judge William Bell appointed Patrick Tuten guardian ad litem to Gunner Scarano.  A guardian ad litem is often appointed for minors who can’t represent themselves in court.

Tuten will act on Scarano’s behalf in a civil lawsuit filed against him.  Scarano, a teenager, is accused of causing two crashes on Bailey Cove Road in May 2013.  Scarano’s father, Richard Scarano, is also named in the lawsuit.

A local injury attorney filed the civil lawsuit on behalf of his client, Amy Creech and her daughter.  They were in a vehicle police say was hit in the crash.

Jaden Coppens, a 10-year-old girl, died in the crash.  Seven others were hurt.  Read more background on the case.
