DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) – Decatur Utilities will be conducting a quality control survey of the natural gas system over the next few months.  The utility wants you to know ahead of time, in case you see surveyors working on your streets and near your property.

The surveyors will check gas lines and meters around homes and businesses in certain areas of Southwest and Northwest Decatur.  The survey is required by the Federal Department of Transportation and The Alabama Public Service Commission.

You may see a slow-moving vehicle (approximately 5 MPH) in streets, alleys and highways.  Some of the work may be done at night when there is less traffic.

Decatur Utilities said the survey work will be conducted by Southern Cross Corporation of Norcross, Georgia. Vehicles will have signs stating the name Southern Cross Corporation.  Also, Southern Cross employees may require access to customers’ property to check for service line leaks.  The employees will have identification and should explain what they are doing.

Decatur Utilities expects the survey work to be finished by November 22, 2013.  If you have any questions, call (256) 552-1404.
