DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) - Police have charged a 16-year-old with murder in connection to the overnight beating and shooting death of a Decatur teen.

Elias Nava, 16, was arrested and charged with murder on Wednesday afternoon.  According to police, they developed Nava as a suspect early in the investigation and found him in Athens.

Decatur Police say the victim was Jim Uriostegui, 18.

Police say they received a call on Tuesday night about a disturbance at the Hightway 20 Trailer Court.  The caller reported a large crowd and several people fighting.  More calls came in about shots being fired as police rushed to the scene.

When officers arrived, the crowd dispersed and officers found Uriostegui beaten and wounded from a gunshot to the chest, according to Decatur Police.  Paramedics rushed Uriostegui to Decatur-Morgan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
