Athens Carjacking Suspect

ATHENs, Ala. (WHNT) – Athens Police Officers are looking for a man they believe stole a truck from a gas station, after he removed an 11-year-old girl from the cab.

Police say they are looking for 34-year-old Steven Michael Lewter. He is around 6 ft. tall and has tattoos on both arms.

Investigators say a man left the girl in a yellow 2001 Ford Ranger Edge while going inside the gas station at the corner of Highway 72 and Cloverleaf Drive in Athens.  They say that’s when Lewter took the girl out of the truck then drove away. The truck has a University of Alabama sticker in the back window. The Alabama license plate number is 47W34L5.

They say they have reason to believe Lewter may be headed to Florida.

The young girl was not hurt.

Police say Lewter may be armed with a knife, so if you see him, you should call police.
