MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) -- Heading back to school comes with a cost. A big one is that perfect back-to-school outfit. A charity in Madison is trying to make that purchase a little easier today.
WHNT News 19's David Kumbroch spoke with the organizers earlier this week.
At Inside Out Ministries, boxes of clothes find their way onto racks, and soon, into new hands. The group will be selling the clothing for $1 or less, and the money will go back to the charity.
It's a simple concept that could only come from someone just getting out of grade school, like the incoming college freshmen who organized the event. It's based on a simple but elegant premise.
"My mom always got me a new outfit for the first day of school, and her reasoning is when we feel good in what we wear, sometimes we're more likely to go outside our comfort zone," said Madison Rolling, one of the organizers. "It's a simple form of self-confidence that can make all the difference."
These folks truly believe one outfit could change a whole school year. That's why these boxes overflow with clothes. This group of young people worked hard all summer to collect them, but they're just about done with gathering. It's time to start giving.
All the clothes are locally donated and in great condition.
So, while it may look like racks full of clothes, these volunteers hope it's confidence that kids pull off the hangers.
The event is Saturday at Inside Out Ministries from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at 103 Gin Oaks Court in Madison.
