Drum Corps International Competition Coming to Huntsville July 27

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (July 26, 2013) – Drum Corps International is coming to Huntsville on Saturday, July 27th. This is the first time ever that north Alabama has hosted a Drum Corps International (DCI) event. The competition will be held at Alabama A&M’s Louis Crews Stadium.

DCI, also referred to as Marching Music’s Major League, is the world leader in producing events for the world’s most elite and exclusive marching ensembles for student musicians and performers. DCI North Alabama is just one in a series of more than 100 competitive events. These events are part of Drum Corps International‘s national summer tour which is held from June through mid-August.

Fifteen groups from across thirteen states will be performing. Each competing group features musical ensembles of up to 150 brass musicians, percussionists and dance performers ranging in age from 14 to 22. The performances are staged on a football field and feature visual formations and stunning choreography set to musical arrangements in classical, jazz, pop, and rock music.

During the summer tour season, many of the groups participating in the competition will travel more than 10,000 miles in order to compete in the highest level.

  • General Admission tickets are $25
  • Groups of 20 or more are offered a special rate of $20
