LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A convenience store clerk is continuing to recover after two robbers assaulted him during a heist early Thursday morning in Lauderdale County.

On Friday, the clerk talked with WHNT News 19.

Robert Smith told a chilling story of Thursday morning’s robbery at the Quik Stop convenience store on Cloverdale Road.

Once in, the robbers forced Robert into the store’s office, where the safe is kept.

“He had the barrel of the gun right in the middle of my neck,” stated Smith.

Robert said the robbers grew increasingly frustrated when he could not open the safe.

“It was excruciating,” explained Robert. “I had them laying on me, one guy has got you down with his knee in your back and the other guy hitting you with the butt of the gun, and you’re not doing anything. I was doing everything they asked me to do.”

If you have any information that could help investigators capture the two men involved you are urged to call the Shoals Area Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 256-386-8685.
