2011: Remembering the Final Shuttle Launch

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The space shuttle Atlantis launched for the final flight of the space shuttle program in 2011. The innovation of Marshall Space Flight Center’s employees was key to the program’s success.

The final flight took additional supplies to the International Space Station. Atlantis launched for the last time on July 8, 2011 and returned on July 21, 2011.

The space shuttle program took a total of 156 individuals into space over the course of 33 missions.
