SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WHNT) - Scottsboro Police arrested a woman who allegedly threatened children at Kid's Kingdom Christian Care in Scottsboro with a gun Tuesday afternoon.
48-year-old Michelyn Rae McNeal is charged with Making a Terrorist Threat and Menacing.
Kid's Kingdom owner Erica Owens tells WHNT News 19, "A neighbor evidently had yelled at the children to stop throwing the football up against the fence. And not knowing her and 'you're not my teacher,' they continued to play as normal."
Owens told police that neighbor was McNeal.
"The lady supposedly had come out and told the children that if they done it again that she was going to shoot them," Owens said. "And she had a gun with her that the children described."
WHNT News 19 went to the home where McNeal lived with her parents. Her mother, Diane Cole Bronsnick says the entire story is a "fabrication and entirely false." Bronsnick says her daughter has bonded out of jail but is not back at her home at this time.
The daycare's playground backs up to McNeal's backyard. Teachers say they saw McNeal with the gun and called police. Police didn't file charges at the scene on Tuesday.
That changed just after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday when Scottsboro Police officially charged McNeal.
Lieutenant Scott Matthews of the Scottsboro Police Department had this to say.
"You can't threaten somebody obviously with a firearm. Then you get into the reckless endangerment type stuff or a menacing type case or all the way up, like I said, to terrorist threats," Matthews said.
There was closed-door parent meeting Wednesday evening where owners of the daycare planned on going over security procedures and clearing up any "misinformation that has been spread since the incident occurred."
