HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Dr. Wernher Von Braun envisioned a museum showcasing the achievements of the Rocket City's involvement in the U.S. Space program.

After years of planning, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center opened its doors in 1970.

Today, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center is home to Space Camp and Aviation Challenge. The center showcases interactive science exhibits, Apollo, Space Shuttle and Army aircraft artifacts. The center explores Huntsville's role in the construction of the moon rocket, space race and Apollo missions.
