DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) - A Morgan County man with a history of domestic violence is now charged with the murder of his wife. Rodney David Hagood has been jailed since his wife's death in February, charged with manslaughter. This week, a Morgan County Grand Jury upgraded the charge.

The charges against Rodney David Hagood have now been upgraded from manslaughter to murder. Hagood was arrested not long after the body of Stacey Hagood was discovered by her daughter in the couple's River Loop Road home. Hagood turned himself into authorities later that day.

Investigators tell us Hagood told them he was having an arguement with his wife when he shoved her and she fell, hitting her head. Based on that story, along with physical evidence gathered at the scene, Hagood was charged with manslaughter. But District Attorney Scott Anderson presented the case to the grand jury earlier this month. They returned an indictment charging Hagood with murder in connection with the death of his wife.

Back in February, we spoke with Hagood's neighbors. They tell us it was not unusual to see the police at the Hagood's home. In fact, Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin says domestic violence seemed to be a way of life for the couple.

For now, Hagood remains in the Morgan County Jail under a 200-thousand dollar bond. A court date has not yet been set.
