JOE WHEELER STATE PARK, Ala. (WHNT) -- Madison County resident Morris Lovelady started water skiing 60 years ago, but his "skis" are simply his feet.

Lovelady will celebrate is 78th birthday this weekend on Father's Day.  Usually his family marks the day with water skiing, but a recent back injury has kept the local legend off the water, for now.

"It is not easy, it takes practice and a little luck to stay up in the water," Lovelady told WHNT News 19 Friday evening.

The Harvest area resident was honored by the American Barefoot Water Ski Association for his efforts promoting the sport.
