The victim, Jose Ruiz, was found shot to death off of County Road 84 in Speake on March 4, 2013.  Investigators arrested Jaime Roman Romero at that time.

Sheriff Mitchell said investigators developed Martinez as a second suspect after finding evidence that linked him to the crime.

The Sheriff said Martinez was caught in Yuma, Arizona in May and was then extradited back to Lawrence County on Monday.

Sheriff Mitchell said investigators have been working with law enforcement agencies in Florida and California, who believe Martinez may be connected to murders in those states.

Martinez is being held in the Lawrence County Jail without bond.
