COURTLAND, Ala. (WHNT) – Rescuers are searching for a man that was swept away by the current while fishing.

Simeon Gray, 20, had just come home from college the day before. He was enjoying a day of fishing with friends Wednesday evening at Spring Creek Bridge on County Road 400.

Authorities say at about 8 p.m., Gray decided to climb hand-over-hand under the bridge, crossing the creek, when he slipped and fell into the water. He went under right away.

The Lawrence County Rescue Squad, Morgan County Rescue Squad and the Decatur Dive responded. The search was put on hold for a brief time overnight after not having any luck diving or using radar. The search has since resumed.
