Muscle Shoals, Ala. (WHNT) - For the first time in school history, the Guntersville boys golf team has won a state championship.

At the Shoals golf course, the Wildcats went into the final round with the lead.  Significant winds did slow down much of the field, but not Guntersville.  They were led by Reagan Harrell, who finished tied atop the individual leaderboard at 1-over-par.  Eric Yarbro also helped the cause with some clutch putting on the back nine.

Guntersville won the team title by six strokes and its coach said a tough schedule was what helped prepare the Wildcats for this tournament.

"Great battle all year long and these guys have just gotten tougher along the way," said Jimmy Latta, Guntersville head coach.  "They've played bigger tournaments, bigger schools, longer tournaments in an effort to get ready for this."
