Families gathered outside of what remained of their homes, Tuesday morning.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Several Brittany Point apartment units were destroyed in a fire that blazed for nearly 3 hours Monday.

Firefighters returned to the scene to put out hot spots, and help former residents gather treasured possessions from the rubble.

Four units were destroyed by the flames, and the entire building evacuated.

“We could have been asleep in the house, it could have happened at night. We are blessed that we were gone,” said Danielle Murph, who lived in one of the apartments with her 10-year-old son.

Fortunately no one was hurt in the fire.

By noon Tuesday, the scorched and crumbling apartments were demolished.

Brittany Point Management did not want to issue a comment on the incident. They did confirm they have offered the displaced residents a chance to move into an empty unit in the complex, or terminate their lease without penalty.
