Huntsville, Ala. –  Both the Daktronics and National Fastpitch Coaches Association all-region teams have been announced, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville placed five on both teams with Kimberly Jack, Cortney McNett and Mary Kelley taking home first-team honors from both organizations.

On the Daktronics list, Kathryn Whitlock joined the trio on the All-South Region First Team, while pitcher Whitney Toler earned a spot on the Second Team. The NFCA recognized Whitlock on the Second Team along with Abby MacKay.

UAH’s five selections to the NFCA all-region squads marked the second-most in the country, and the Chargers placed more on the Daktronics first team than any other team in the region.

The six all-region selections guided the Chargers to a regular season Gulf South Conference title, and the team won the NCAA South 2 Regional this past weekend to earn a place at this week’s South Super Regional at Valdosta State.

Three of the selections are seniors, headlined by the team’s offensive leader McNett. The catcher is batting a strong .430 on the season with 23 doubles and 68 RBI, and she leads the GSC in numerous categories including average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and runs. Whitlock has driven in 56 runs on the season to sit in second behind McNett, and MacKay is second on the team with six homers while knocking in 42 runs.

Kelley is already a two-time All-American and is making a strong bid for a third such honor as she is hitting .390 this season with 17 doubles, seven triples, and 52 RBI. The seven triples for the junior rank sixth in Division II this season. Her classmate Toler has been strong in the circle, racking up 12 wins to go along with only three losses. In 113 innings pitched, the junior from Fayetteville, Ga., has struck out 74 batters.

Putting together a strong freshman campaign that has already earned her GSC Pitcher of the Year and GSC Freshman of the Year honors, Jack boasts a league-best 1.58 ERA, and her eight saves leads all of Division II.
