HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - Firefighters fought wind fanned flames at an apartment building in south Huntsville for more than three hours Monday afternoon.

The fire started inside a building at Brittany Point Apartments  just after 1:30 p.m.

A witness said the fire started in the unit next to 908.  At one point, flames were shooting up to 50 feet in the air and smoke could be seen for miles.

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the fire.  The witness added firefighters were able to get a few pets out of the building.

At least six units are damaged, WHNT News 19's Matt Kroschel reports.  The fire was visible from Valley Hill Country Club, just off Willowbrook Drive west of Bailey Cove Road.

Fire investigators are working to determine a cause and all of the residents have been moved into temporary living quarters. The American Red Cross was also on the scene to provide assistance.
