HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- Both lanes headed over Monte Sano Mountain toward Huntsville on highway 431 were scheduled to reopen Thursday morning but that timeline was pushed back. The lanes indeed opened just in time for the afternoon commute but there is a catch.

State troopers say due to continued median work on the stretch of roadway, lanes will open at 5pm and collapse to one open lane again at 9am daily UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

When both lanes are open in the evening, state police urge drivers to continue to use extreme caution in the area as work continues. Troopers are strictly enforcing the work zone speed limit of 45 miles per hour.

Dug Hill Road officially closed Thursday. Caldwell Lane is the designated Dug Hill Road detour route.
