HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) - The David McKannan Memorial Run is Saturday, May 18th beginning in front of Grissom High School in Huntsville.

Packet pickup and race day registration starts at 7 a.m.  The 5K race begins at 8 a.m.

David McKannan was a Grissom and Auburn University track star, loving father, husband and brother who lost his battle with ALS in 2012.

This 5K race used to be held downtown, but has a new course this year as runners go through the familiar streets of southeast Huntsville that David ran during his youth and as a track star at Grissom High School. He went on to run track at Auburn University.

This race is open to all, from the serious runners to those who just want to join in the fight against Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Funds raised will benefit the ALS Association Alabama Chapter to help patients and their families.
