MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) - Monday, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the 49th Class of Presidential Scholars.  Three are from right here in Madison County.

Two are seniors at Bob Jones High School and the third goes to Randolph School in Huntsville.  Each of the students listed his or her most influential teacher:

  • David Hergenroeder, Bob Jones High School.  Most influential teacher: Teresa Tarter
  • Martin Wang, Bob Jones High School.  Most influential teacher: Greg Duvall
  • Hema Pingali, Randolph School.  Most influential teacher: Ruth McMichens

These three students are among only 141 students in the nation to get this honor.  The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars, appointed by President Obama, selects scholars each year based on academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, community service and leadership.

Congratulations to all of the students for this achievement, and the teachers and families who helped guide them!
