Almon Earns Capital One Academic All-District Honors

Florence, Ala. –¬†University of North Alabama senior third baseman Andrew Almon of Florence has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 5 Baseball Team for the second straight year.

With a 3.77 cumulative grade point average in Chemistry, Almon was one of 10 players chosen for the academic all-district squad. He has previously been chosen Academic All-Gulf South Conference and Academic All-District 5 in 2012. The 2013 Academic All-GSC squad will not be named until later in May.

A five-year member of the UNA baseball program, Almon is a four-year letterman and started 119 games for the Lions. This season he hit .253 with 31 runs scored and 25 runs batted in. He also had a .347 on base percentage. Over the last two seasons he has established himself as one of the top defensive third basemen in Division II. He had a .974 fielding percentage this season with just four errors in 153 fielding chances.
