TRINITY, Ala. (WHNT) - Lawrence County Sheriff's Investigator Tim McWhorter confirms Brandon Lorne Barnes, 39, of 599 Co. Rd. 345, Trinity, has been charged with manslaughter following the shooting death Sunday night of his longtime friend Daniel Peeples. Barnes is being held in the Lawrence County Jail under a ten thousand dollar bond.

Peeples, 39, of Moulton, was pronounced dead at 10:13 P.M. Investigators say he died from a single .22 caliber gunshot wound to the chest.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell tells WHNT News 19 that Peeples, along with his common-law wife and her son, had gone to Barnes' home to visit Sunday evening. Mitchell says the two men were drinking and apparently got into an argument over "inappropriate comments" made about Peeples' wife. The argument escalated into an apparent fight that ended with the shooting of Peeples. Barnes showed signs of being in an altercation at the time of his arrest.
