Panoply This Weekend: Free Admission For Military On Friday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – Panoply 2013 is this weekend, April 26-28, and The Arts Council will honor the military and their families on opening night.

Friday is Military Salute Night presented by Boeing.  Active Duty military personnel, Armed Forces reserves and their dependents will be admitted free of charge that evening.

panoply This is the third year of Panoply’s salute to the military and this special evening at the festival honors the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and recognizes the service of active duty and reserve service members living in our community.

“Here in the Tennessee Valley, the United States armed forces play an important role,” said Arts Council Executive Director Allison Dillon-Jauken. “Most of us personally know someone who serves to defend our freedom so we may celebrate art, entertainment, and community at events like the 31st Panoply Arts Festival. We are grateful for their service and sacrifice and are proud to pay tribute to them at Panoply.”

Panoply opens at 5 p.m. Friday and concludes at 9 p.m. with fireworks.  Over 20 musical groups will perform that evening, including the Army Materiel Command at 8 p.m. on The Huntsville Times/Radiance Technologies’ Valley Jubilee Stage.  Award-winning alternative country band The David Mayfield Parade will perform on the UAHuntsville Showcase Stage, and the Classical-Blues Cabaret featuring Phil Weaver, Ken Watters, Ingrid von Spakovsky, and Dave Gallaher will also appear.

Saturday’s hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with fireworks at the end of the evening, and Sunday’s hours are 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Panoply is held in Big Spring Park in downtown Huntsville.

Daily admission for the general public is $5.00.  Weekend Panopasses are $10.00, sold through Thursday at Region’s Bank locations in north Alabama, the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and online at The Arts Council’s website.  Children 10 and under get in free.
